Lindheimer House
491 Comal (see New Braunfels Conservation Plaza)
In 1845 Lindheimer settled on 2 ½ acres on the Comal River at the invitation of Carl-Prince Solms-Braunfels. The half-timbered house is one of the oldest remaining structures in New Braunfels. He collected a bounty of plant specimens that would later make him famous.

The New Braunfels Museum of Art and Music, located at 1259 Gruene Road in Gruene, Texas, will soon open a new 10,000 square foot exhibit and performance facility as part of its ongoing efforts to encourage the preservation and study of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Lone Star State. Although the museum is only three years old, it already has compiled a very impressive list of accomplishments, including a number of highly acclaimed and well-attended exhibits, a variety of educational outreach programs in local schools and community venues, and a very successful fundraising drive made possible through grants, donations, and other sources.
Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture

1370 Church Hill Drive
830-629-6504
Tour of the Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture will introduce the visitor to the artistic beauty of handcrafted Biedermeier furniture as constructed by German cabinetmakers who settled in New Braunfels and nearby communities. Over seventy pieces of this furniture collected by the late Bill and Nan Dillen serve as the focal point of what was once their home. Although these primarily black walnut and pine pieces were crafted between 1845 and 1880, the simplicity of their design is timeless. Costumed docents (delete the word “will) guide you on a tour that will include the main house, the Reininger log cabin, the Cabinet Shop, the Summer kitchen/smokehouse and the soon to be restored Breustedt kitchen. Although most tours last approximately an hour, at your request a tour can customized to fit your schedule.
Museum tours also include a brief history of the house and its occupants as it relates to the German immigration to Texas. Prominent local cabinetmakers featured are Johann Jahn, Franz Stautzenberger, and Heinrich Scholl, Jr. Also featured is a large collection of English ironstone, handmade quilts and period accessories.
